An Aussie Christmas.

by mea 1/5/2009 2:01:00 PM

This is a typical Aussie Christmas breakfast :) My family tree has grown so large, stretching to every continent.

How did you spend this morning? As happy as our neighbours and us, I hope!

If you are in New York (USA, that is ) after Jan 9 and you hear the unforgettable sound of Tim's didge, say "G'day"

This year for the first time in ages both my children and their families were here with me, so lovely to have them all together. Paul, my son and his family arrived on Christmas Eve, he having flown in from Afghanistan on the 23rd. He is a Sergeant in the RAF and at present having already done his bit in both Gulf wars and 2 tours in Afghanistan is now flying in and out on Med-evac duties. Believe me no mother could be prouder of her son than I am. My daughter and her husband live quite close by so they came both on Christmas and Boxing day for the day. Unlike you there was no chance of sitting in the garden unless one really wanted Hypothermia, temperatures have been no higher than 4 celcius day time and as low as -7 at night, but not a white Christmas unless frost counts! It was a joy to be cooking for a family again and we did the traditional dinner of Turkey, roast potatoes, the ubiquitous Brussels Sprouts - either you love or hate them, no in between etc., that was followed by christmas pudding and brandy cream and mince pies, again an acquired taste. In the evening the old fashioned games come out and with the help of a few glasses of vino much laughter rings through the house. The following day as well as Boxing day is also my middle grandson's birthday so for him more presents to open. We tend to eat leftovers on Boxing day, cold turkey and ham, salads and bubble and squeak which is left over potatoes and green veg mashed up, seasoned, made into small cakes and fried - yummy- not healthy but it is Christmas! May I wish you and yours a very Happy and Peaceful 2009 and hope that the world is a better place by the end of it.

My christmas was morning was low key to start with as the previous three week ends had involved travelling to Perth 200Kms away, this was to participate in various Car Club Christmas functions,
Christmas morning my wife Irene and I simply opened Christmas our presents to each other and left others.
At lunch time we travelled to my brothers place for a large Christmas lunch which was as usual with roast beef lamb, pork and chicken or turkey, this was with salads and the usual extras followed by sweets.
it was a good lunch with the adults sitting around afterwards talking about events of the past and a couple of future plans.
In the mid afternoon people dispersed either to their own homes or to other parties, a few of the children went to the nearby beach for a swim but it was too hot for some of the adults. ( 32degrees C )
at tea time we Irene and I spent together at home.
Boxing day lunch my Daughter Denise and son in law Shawn with their 5 month son George, My Son Steven, sister Carolyn and Mother Hellen came over and we opened the rest of the presents and had tea etc, the meal included some fresh fruit and vegetables from our garden.
Centre of attention was my Grandson George unraping his presents.
thanks for your greeting

I don't normally comment on blogs, however I have to say that I rather enjoyed yours as it was enlightening. I´ve bookmarked your blog and hope to explorer it further when I have a little more time. Keep up the good work. Well back to my dreaming of <a href="blogs.law.harvard.edu/.../a> or back to the books - I wonder which one is going to win out. Smile
