Don't go on about Christmas!

by mea 12/18/2007 11:20:00 AM

This is the time for children of all ages to enjoy stories of fairies, angels and the grand daddy of them all,Saint Nicholas aka Santa Claus . Originally a holy and wealthy man living in Turkey, he gave away gifts to help poorer families. He lives on in the round and merry figure who has moved to the most northen most town on Earth.

A story with a twist.....A wrong number (dialled for a Xmas site) got the commanding officer of NORAD. This inspired the the NORAD Tracks Santa Web site, courtesy of  the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). For over fifty years on Christmas Eve NORAD has told stories of how their powerful tracking systems such as the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line) detected Santa Claus leaving the North Pole to deliver his presents. This happens every year. With the help of Google Earth it has grown into a truly spectacular sight.
Following is a Youtube version of a little of last year's show.

To watch Santa do his thing this year on December the 24th visit Norad tracks Santa
A site with so much about Christmas is here Suite101.com

A very Merry Christmas to you all!

And please remember a Christmas prayer for ALL the citizens Of Bethlehem

It's here again!

by mea 12/11/2007 1:21:00 PM

As one gets older, time goes faster. I wonder what the formula could be?... An inverse proportion of some kind..... Any way, Christmas is on the way, and there are morning teas, luncheons, dinner, barbecues all within the last frantic weeks. Shopping, Trees to put up, menues to plan. Thank God for LETS. My good friend, Sharryn, came and helped me to do some of the extra work that is part of it all.

When I opened my email I found a chain email with a photo in it. Being just a leeetle superstitious I dislike them on principle. So I changed the wording and sent it on.

One of my obsessions is astronomy. This is the picture taken by NASA, using the Hubble Telescope, of  MyCn18, called God's Eye. It will now be part of my desktop.

Village Market

by mea 12/4/2007 5:16:00 PM

I live near a small town, Kalamunda. Once a month part of the streets are cordoned off and a market is held. It is organized by the local Rotary Club.

We have a plethora of markets in WA, but this one, thanks to Rotary, is soooo different. Most of the goods are made by local artisans and are of superb quality.

Prices are moderate and it is fun just to window shop. The range is wide.....pickles, jams, fresh vegetables, weaving, silver ware, jewelry of all types, plants, baby clothes,  cosmetics (cottage industry), honey, toys..one could go on and still not have included every goody.

I was talking to a man who had made the most stunning wrought iron sculptures. There is a waiting list of six months and the organisers are very demanding in the quality and originality of the produce on sale. I hope my grandchildren will enjoy the gifts I found here.

I have just found the most beautiful, calming, thoughtful site. Spend just a moment to watch and listen. Be warned!  I am a theist!
